Cost Of Green Bin Collections To Rise

People across Harborough with green bins will have to pay more to have them emptied from next year.
The annual subscription charge for the garden waste service is increasing by £15 to £55.
Just over 20,000 residents currently use the service, run by Harborough District Council.
The rise was approved at a meeting last night and Council Leader Phil King, told Hfm the authority could no longer afford to subsidise collections as much as it has been doing and without the increase it would have made the service unsustainable:
Opposition councillors voted against the rise, which equates to a near 40% increase in the annual subscription charge – they wanted the decision put on hold, saying more information was needed on the matter.
