Coronavirus Vaccinations To Begin In Market Harborough Tomorrow

The Coronavirus vaccine will start to be given to people in Market Harborough tomorrow.

The Market Harborough Medical Centre will hold a special two-day clinic, as it receives its first batch of the Pfizer vaccine.

People aged 80 and over, as well as care home residents and workers, will be among the first to receive the jab, a mix of patients registered at the Coventry Road site and Husbands Bosworth Medical Centre,

It is part of the second phase of the roll-out of the vaccine across Leicestershire from GP-led vaccination centres and the Medical Centre is contacting people eligible for the jab, to book them an appointment.

There is no need for people to contact the surgery themselves.

Dr Hamant Mistry, Senior Partner at Market Harborough Medical Centre said: “We are delighted that the Market Harborough and Bosworth Primary Care Network is part of the second wave of the COVID vaccination programme, covering patients registered with Market Harborough Medical Centre and Husbands Bosworth Medical Centre.

“Our first clinics will be held on Friday 18th and Saturday 19th December at the Market Harborough Medical Centre.

“A wonderful effort has been made by our entire practice team, clinicians and non-clinicians, to put in place the process to make this happen in such a short space of time.”

Nurses, paramedics, pharmacists and other NHS staff will work alongside GPs in administering the vaccine, which is typically delivered by a simple injection in the upper arm.

Two doses of the vaccine are required, three weeks apart, to achieve protection against coronavirus.

The South Leicestershire Medical Group, which operates the other surgery in Market Harborough and surgeries in Kibworth, Fleckney and Great Glen has been given a provisional date of December 29^th for its first vaccination clinic.
