A serious crash was averted last night after an elderly driver travelled the wrong way along the A14 for over two miles.

Police received several 999 calls at around 7.30pm, after a Fiat Panda was seen going westbound on the eastbound carriageway, towards on-coming traffic.

A lorry driver was able to stop the car close to junction 3, the turn for the A6 Rothwell/Desborough bypass, before officers arrived to deal with the incident.

A spokesperson for Northamptonshire Police told Hfm: “The driver was a woman in her 80s and it is believed she entered the wrong carriageway at Junction 7 near Kettering.

“Luckily a lorry managed to stop the car safely and there were no injuries.”
