A woman was injured and the horse she was riding had to be put down after a car collided with them in Hallaton.
Police say the rider was taken to hospital following the collision on Medbourne Road, just before 10am on Saturday.
A vet was called to the scene, but sadly the horse was too badly injured to be saved.
A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police told Hfm: “A car was reported to have collided with the rear of a horse, leading to the rider to fall from the horse.
“East Midlands Ambulance Service attended to the rider. Her injuries were not reported to be serious.
“A vet also attended the scene. The horse had to be put down at the scene of the incident.
“No other injuries were reported.
“The road was closed while emergency services attended the scene. The road reopened at around 11.30am.”
