Appeal For Laptops To Help Youngsters Learn From Home
Written by HFM News on 6th January 2021
An appeal has been launched for unwanted laptops to help Harborough schoolchildren learn from home, as schools close because of the lockdown,
Some families don’t have a suitable device for their children to use for on-line lessons, which is proving a challenge for some schools.
The Learn Academies Trust, responsible for 11 primaries in and around Market Harborough, is keen to hear from individuals or businesses who can help.
A spokesman told Hfm: “Learn-AT schools have been preparing for remote teaching since last summer and all children have access to Microsoft Teams, which teachers will use to set tasks and interact directly, online with their pupils.
“The main challenge our schools have faced is sourcing enough laptops for those families who don’t have a suitable device at home for their child to use for online lessons.
“If any individuals or businesses have any unwanted old laptops that they would be willing to donate for this purpose we would gratefully accept any device that is in working order.
If you can help, email laptops@learnat.uk
Schools remain open for children of keyworkers and youngsters deemed vulnerable.
Stef Edwards, Learn-AT’s Trust Leader, has praised the way teachers have responded following the decision to close schools to the majority of pupils:
The schools within the Trust are; Market Harborough CE Academy, Meadowdale Primary School, Ridgeway Primary Academy, Great Bowden CE Academy, Lubenham All Saints CE Primary School, Husbands Bosworth CE Primary School, St Andrew’s CE Primary School, North Kilworth, South Kilworth CE Primary School, Church Langton CE Primary School, Blaby Stokes CE Primary School & Red Hill Field Primary School.
