On-Line Lessons Resume After Cyber Attack On School’s IT Systems

Hundreds of students from Welland Park Academy in Market Harborough have re-started on-line lessons with teachers today.
Computer systems used for remote learning have been reinstated, after a serious cyber-attack on the school’s IT network, which left them out of action since Monday.
Police spent two days at the school and have launched a criminal investigation after the major hack resulted in hard drives of some pupil’s personal computers being completely wiped.
In a letter to parents, Principal Julie McBrearty said: “Leicestershire Police Cybercrime unit have been working with us extensively this week and will be on site tomorrow. We understand now that we have been subjected to a cyber-attack and, happily, we are now starting to restore our operations as the police complete their investigation.
“Staff will not have access to all of their stored resources yet, but we appreciate how important it is that we commence our online learning programme again.
“We would like to thank you once again for your patience and understanding during this very frustrating and challenging time for all involved.”
