New Homes Formula Scrapped By Government

Plans that would have more than doubled the number of homes built across Harborough annually have been scrapped.

The government has revised its controversial planning reforms after widespread opposition.

It would have seen a computer algorithm set housing targets instead of at a local level, meaning over 1,238 homes for the Harborough District per year, instead of the current number of just under 600.

The revised plan will redirect house building towards inner city areas, so there will be no change for areas like Harborough.

Harborough MP Neil O’Brien had been highly critical of the idea and was the first MP to raise the issue in the House Of Commons.
