Murder Findings Published

The findings of an investigation into the unlawful killing of Alice Ruggles – who was stalked and then murdered by her ex-boyfriend in Gateshead two and a half years’ ago – have just been published.
The Domestic Homicide Review into the death of 24 year old Alice – who grew up in Tur Langton – has found both Northumbria Police and the Army failed to properly address signs of Lieutenant Corporal Trimaan Dhillon’s jealous and obsessive behaviour.
It makes twenty recommendations as to how a similar tragedy could be avoided in the future – including better training of officers and making it a criminal offence to threaten to release intimate photos of an ex-partner. 26 year-old Dhillon was jailed for a minimum of 22 years last year after being found guilty of travelling 120 miles to Tyneside to break into Alice’s flat and kill her.
Welcoming the new report, her parents Clive Ruggles and Sue Hill said: ‘Alice died in tragic circumstances and it is important that failings are acknowledged, lessons learned, and improvements made.’
After their daughter’s death, the couple set up The Alice Ruggles Trust – with a mission to bring stalking to an end.
