Kibworth No Longer Classified As Air Pollution Hotspot

Kibworth has officially been taken off the list of areas where vehicle pollution has exceeded national limits.
Harborough District Council has revoked an Air Quality Management Area covering the A6, after six consecutive years of monitoring recorded no breaches of national nitrogen dioxide standards.
The decision was approved by the council’s cabinet last night, nine years after the designation came into force.

Deputy Leader Phil King told the meeting that the designation could be reinstated if pollution levels rise.
Following the declaration, the council produced an action plan, outlining steps to cut pollution and bring air quality back within safe limits.
HDC says air quality remains generally good across the district and it will also begin work on a new Air Quality Strategy, to help maintain and improve air quality.
Councillor Michael Rickman, the council’s Cabinet Lead for Community Safety, said the decision was based on robust evidence and that monitoring would continue to ensure standards remain good and identify any future issues.
He added that the council was committed to building on the progress through its new strategy.
