Harborough’s MP has raised the issue of school transport for children with special needs in the House of Commons.

It follows a meeting with Kyra Williams from Market Harborough, whose teenage daughter will be one of those affected when Leicestershire County Council stops providing transport for disabled 16 to 19-year-olds, next year.

Neil O’Brien has now been promised a meeting with the Department For Education to discuss the matter.

Kyra told Hfm she and fellow parents, who formed a campaign group against the removal of the transport, are delighted the matter was raised at national level:

The County Council will provide money for parents to organise their own transport for children, but many say it will not be enough to cover the costs.
