Market Harborough’s Argos Won’t Re-Open

Market Harborough’s Argos store is to close permanently.

The shop is St Mary’s place has been shut since the first lockdown in March, but it has been confirmed today it will not re-open.

It follows the announcement by the retailer’s owner Sainsbury’s that over 100 branches are being shut across the country.

It is not clear how many members of staff are affected by the decision.

A Sainsbury’s spokesman told Hfm: “Many of the Argos colleagues affected redeployed to help in other Argos stores and busy Sainsbury’s supermarkets and they will continue to do so during the consultation process.

“We will do everything possible to find them an alternative role and have an excellent track record in doing so.

“We have said that we also plan to employ 6,000 more people permanently, but we recognise that vacancies might not always be in the right location or at suitable hours for all colleagues.”

In some areas, Argos counters have been set-up in near-by Sainsbury’s stores – the supermarket in Market Harborough is opposite – although there is no decision yet on if that will happen.
