A man is in a serious but stable condition in hospital after being attacked in Market Harborough town centre on Saturday night.

The 26-year-old suffered head injuries in the serious assault on the High Street at around 11pm.

Police say a 21-year-old man from Market Harborough was arrested on suspicion of Grievous Bodily Harm and has been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Officers believe the assault followed a disagreement in a queue outside the Sugar Loaf, which also resulted in an 18-year-old woman being assaulted.

A Leicestershire Police spokesman told Hfm: “Officers are carrying out further enquiries after a man was seriously assaulted in Market Harborough at the weekend.

“Enquiries in to the circumstances surrounding the GBH are continuing and no arrests have been made in relation to the common assault on the 18-year-old girl.

“If anyone witnessed either incidents or has any information which may assist with the investigation they are asked to contact 101, quoting crime number 20*341860.”

A Dispersal Order was implemented in and around the town centre following outbreaks of disorder  on Saturday night.
