Leisure Centres Offered As Vaccination Hubs

Written by on 7th January 2021

Harborough District Council has offered the NHS the use of its Leisure Centres in Market Harborough and Lutterworth for Covid-19 vaccination centres.

The authority made the gesture last month, ahead of the roll-out of the first vaccine, and Council Leader, Phil King, has told Hfm the offer ‘remains on the table,’ as the Oxford vaccine began being given to people this week.

Vaccination clinics have been taking place at Market Harborough Medical Centre and the Old School Surgery in Kibworth, although people from Lutterworth are having to travel to Oadby to get their jabs.

Cllr King says having a vaccination hub at Lutterworth Sports Centre would make it much easier for people living in and around the town to get the vaccine.

A Government spokesperson told Hfm: “We are hugely grateful for all offers of support and assistance as we continue to expand our vaccination programme – the biggest vaccination programme in this country’s history.

“This is a huge national effort and the NHS is putting into practice the decades of experience it has spent delivering large scale vaccination programmes, and it has already vaccinated over 1.3 million people nationwide.”
