‘Internal Review’ Into Handling Of Controversial Redevelopment Plan

Written by on 15th February 2021

An internal review is being carried out by Harborough District Council, over concerns about how the plan to redevelop an elderly people’s housing scheme in Market Harborough has been handled.

It has proved controversial since 2018, when some residents in Naseby Square were sent letters out of the blue from their landlord, saying their homes were to be demolished, as part of a redevelopment plan.

The Council says the review – the outcome of which will be made public – does not impact on the planning application to build new affordable homes of the site – which will be considered by councillors tomorrow.

A Council spokesman told Hfm: “A number of concerns have been raised, which we are reviewing.  These do not impact upon the planning application itself.

“The outcome of the review will be discussed publicly via our Governance and Audit Committee.”

The Council is behind the redevelopment plan, with Platform Housing Group set to carry it out, if planning permission is granted.

Over 800 people have signed petitions opposing it.
