Garden Waste Charges To Be Introduced Next Week Across North Northants

Garden waste collections will no longer be free for people living in and around Desborough from next week.

North Northamptonshire Council is introducing an annual charge of £40 for residents who want to continue to receive the service.

A charge will be introduced for garden waste collections from next week

The council says over 7,500 residents in the Kettering area have so far signed up to the subscription scheme and plans are being drawn up to collect unwanted grey bins from those who don’t subscribe and no longer want them.

A spokesperson said: “Once the garden waste subscription service goes live on April 3, unwanted green waste bins will not be removed straight away.

“We will need to look at where bins need to be collected so we can establish the most efficient way of picking them up.

“Therefore, we would ask that people retain them for the time being until we can do this.

“Unfortunately bins cannot be accepted at our Household Waste Recycling Centres.”

People living in places previously served by Kettering Borough Council have always had their garden waste bins empties for no charge, but its replacement, North Northamptonshire Council is harmonising the collection system across its whole area, as residents in other parts already have to pay.

Over 9,500 people responded to a public consultation when the idea of charging for the service was announced last year, with nearly half saying they would stop using their bin if they had to pay a subscription charge.
