Fleckney Pub Scraps Parking Enforcement After Village Outcry

A pub in Fleckney has scrapped its car parking enforcement scheme following complaints from villagers.
The Old Crown on the High Street introduced restrictions to stop non-customers leaving their cars for long periods.
However, the move also affected people using a nearby car park to visit local shops and a pharmacy, which had been free to use for many years.
Villagers reported receiving fines from the pub’s parking enforcement company for very short stays, including when they had paid for parking. They also criticised the lack of clear signage explaining the charges.

The pub’s operator, LEC Pubs, has confirmed that parking enforcement officially ended on Tuesday.
In a statement, the company said the original intention was to ensure customers could find somewhere to park while visiting the pub.
However, it acknowledged that the scheme had prompted a significant response from the local community, with residents expressing concerns and frustration.
The company said: “We have listened to those concerns, and we have acted.”
It added that, as a community pub, it recognised the importance of maintaining a positive relationship with the people of Fleckney.
LEC Pubs said it had reconsidered the scheme after reviewing the feedback, adding: “The local community has spoken, and we believe removing the enforcement is the right thing to do.”
The company thanked residents who had shared their views and said their feedback had directly influenced the decision.
It said it hoped the move demonstrated its commitment to working with neighbours and ensuring The Old Crown remained a valued part of village life.
