Call To Review Kibworth Homes Approval Decision

The government is being asked to reconsider a decision to approve a new housing development in Kibworth Beauchamp.
Harborough District Council recently gave the go-ahead for up to 32 affordable homes on land off Fleckney Road, despite objections over traffic impacts, pressure on local services and conflicts with the neighbourhood plan.
Previous proposals to develop the site had been rejected.

Ward councillor Phil King has now requested the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government call in the application for examination.
Objectors raised concerns about the site between Fleckney Road and Wagtail Avenue being outside development limits, impact on the countryside and highway safety, but councillors concluded the benefits outweighed the issues raised.
A key factor in the decision was that Harborough District Council cannot currently demonstrate a five-year housing land supply, meaning national policy indicates permission should generally be granted unless harm significantly outweighs the benefits.
The scheme was approved by five votes to three, despite 31 objections and parish council concerns.
