Afghan Family Welcomed To Harborough District

Written by on 9th April 2025

A family from Afghanistan has been housed in the Harborough District as part of a government re-settlement scheme.

A man who was an interpreter for the British Army and his family have been welcomed to the area, after being evacuated when the Taliban took control of the country four years ago.

The government’s Afghan Citizens Resettlement Scheme prioritises those who assisted the UK efforts in Afghanistan and stood up for values such as democracy, women’s rights, freedom of speech, and rule of law.

Harborough District Council was awarded funding to provide accommodation for the family and has been assisting in helping them settle in.

When the property is no longer needed, it will revert to being the council’s own stock which can be used for temporary accommodation.
