Third Burst Main In Four Days Sparks Further Water Supply Warning

Residents in villages near Market Harborough are being warned of possible further disruption to their water supplies after another burst main overnight – the third in four days.

Anglian Water says it has isolated the problem near Thorpe Underwood, so properties in the area should still have water, but there is a risk of lower pressure, particularly during peak demand.

Residents living at higher elevations are considered more at risk of low pressure, with more bottled water being delivered to affected properties as a precaution, including in East Farndon.

It follows problems caused by burst mains in Rothwell and Maidwell over the weekend, which also affected places including Great Oxendon, Kelmarsh and Clipston, and left homes and businesses without water or very low pressure.

An Anglian Water spokesperson said: “Overnight there’s been another burst on a smaller main in the area. We’ve been able to isolate the problem so everyone in the area should still have water at home but unfortunately there is the risk of lower pressure than normal.”

It is understood the bursts were caused by a technical problem which set pumps to a high speed following a power surge, increasing pressure in the network and contributing to multiple mains bursting.
