Short-Term Future Of Showground Secured

The short term future of Market Harborough’s Showground has been secured, although concerns remain about what will happen long-term.
It follows a meeting called after it emerged the tenant of the 85-acre site had never been given an official lease from landowners.
They will now offer the Leicestershire Agricultural Society, organisers of the County Show, terms until 2024.
Harborough District Council organised the virtual talks – Leader Phil King was there and spoke to Hfm:
A spokesperson on behalf of the landowners said: “We can confirm that the landowners, Leicestershire Agricultural Society and Harborough District Council held a constructive virtual meeting on Friday 29th January and that as a result, discussions will continue with the Agricultural Society with an aim to agree mutually acceptable terms to enter into a lease for a further three years.
“However, these discussions are confidential and regretfully therefore, no further information is available at this time.”
Concerns about the long-term future of the site remain, with questions about what will happen after 2024.
