Market Harborough Bank ‘Safe’ After Closures Announced

Written by on 19th January 2021

Market Harborough’s HSBC bank is not one of a number across to country to be closed, after a shift towards telephone and internet banking.

The bank has announced today that 82 branches will shut, including in Wigston.

HSBC say the decision reflected “local market trends, customer behaviour and branch usage” and would see the total number of branches reduced to 511.

It doesn’t expect any redundancies from the move though – bosses are going to try to redeploy most staff to nearby sites.

Jackie Uhi, HSBC UK’s head of network, said: “The COVID-19 pandemic has emphasised the need for the changes that we are making.

“It hasn’t pushed us in a different direction but reinforces the things that we were focusing on before and has crystallised our thinking.

“This is a strategic direction that we need to take to have a branch network fit for the future.”

HSBC say the branch on Leicester Road in Wigston will shut in June.
