Covid-19 Rate Across Harborough Drops

Written by on 12th January 2021

For the first time in recent weeks, the number of people testing positive for Covid-19 in the Harborough District has dropped – by nearly a quarter.

Latest figures show there were 327 confirmed cases in the seven day to yesterday – 103 less than the previous week.

The infection rate per 100,000 people now stands at 394.4 – the England average is 576.

The rate in the district had increased to its highest level since the start of the pandemic earlier this month and Public Health bosses are urging people to continue to adhere to lockdown restrictions.

There pressure on Leicestershire’s hospitals continues to be felt, with 211 people admitted in the last week with Coronavirus – 31 more than the previous seven days.

Almost a quarter of the patients in Leicester’s hospitals have Covid-19 and health bosses are expecting the already high figure to rise.

University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust (UHL) confirmed last week that they are treating more coronavirus patients than ever before as the more infectious strain of the disease sweeps the country.

And medics are now preparing new makeshift intensive care wards at the hospital to prepare for even more patients to come through the doors.
