Extra £600k Available For Community Groups
Written by HFM News on 7th January 2021
An extra £600,000 of funding is being made available to support community groups across Harborough during the pandemic – taking the total to over £2m.
The Leicestershire County Council fund was launched in March to ensure the groups could continue to carry out vital work, despite the impact coronavirus is having on their finances.
Leader of Leicestershire County Council, Nick Rushton, is hoping this next round will have a similar uptake, and said: “The response to our Communities Fund has been phenomenal and we are proud to be able to support more charities and community groups with an extra £600k in this third round.
“The Communities Fund will ensure the valuable work of these organisations can keep communities thriving and support vulnerable people in these challenging times.”
To date over £1.5m to 220 projects across Leicestershire.
Applications are being invited for the new round of funding, which focus on groups providing a vital service to local people.

Round three will have an additional focus on supporting community groups who are providing a vital service to local people during the pandemic, including:
• support for people who are described as clinically extremely vulnerable
• the provision of welfare and associated support for vulnerable and disadvantaged people and families, including money/debt advice services; employment related support; food bank and associated food provisions; and access to other essential supplies and equipment
• support to improve the mental health and wellbeing of people affected by the pandemic, including projects which reduce isolation and loneliness.
The deadline for applications is 22nd January 2021.
