A6 Improvement Works To Cause Disruption For Drivers

Highway improvement work will see night-time closures and other restrictions on the A6 around Market Harborough.

The stretch between the Rockingham Road/A427 junction and the McDonald’s roundabout will shut for five nights from December 14^th, so carriageway patching work can take place.

More major works will take place in early January between the Rockingham Road junction to the county boundary past Clack Hill.

It will include resurfacing and drainage works, footway repairs, kerb replacement and vegetation clearance, with overnight closures and a 30mph speed limit during the day for the duration of the works, which could last up to 12 weeks.

There will be 20-mile recommended diversion route when the road is closed – via Corby and Kettering.

The work is being funded by £5m awarded to Leicestershire County Council by the Department of Transport, to be used on the A6 and two other bypasses in Leicestershire.

Trevor Pendleton, cabinet member for Highways and Transport, said “We will be undertaking general highway maintenance on the A6 Market Harborough Bypass to improve the road condition, following funding from the Department for Transport.

“Our Highways Team are working hard to finalise details of the works, and hope to have the scheme completed ahead of schedule.

“All works are currently planned to be undertaken overnight to ensure we can complete these works with minimum disruption to traffic. There will also be lane closures and a reduced speed limit (30mph) in the daytime to maintain site safety for traffic using the A6.

“We apologise for any inconvenience however these works will ensure the road condition is improved for all road users.”
