Santa’s Tour Halted By Covid Restrictions
Written by HFM News on 2nd December 2020
Santa’s planned tour of Market Harborough has had to be halted.
He was due to take to the streets in a Covid-safe manner in the run-up to Christmas, but organisers of the ‘Santa’s Sleigh Routes’, say that is now not possible.
Conrad Barnett from organisers, the 3rd Market Harborough Scouts, told Hfm the decision was taken ‘with a heavy heart’, but due to the area being under Tier 3 restrictions, they have to abide by Scouting Association rules:
Usually the sleigh visits streets most evenings during December and it will be the first time in 52 years the tradition won’t take place.
However, if the Tier restriction is downgraded, when it is reviewed in two weeks’ time, Santa may be able to get out for a few days before Christmas.
The sleigh tour is usually a big fundraiser for the Scout group and its other chosen charity – the Air Ambulance – and people who have always enjoyed it are being encouraged to still donate this year, via an on-line fundraising page.
The Scouts would also like people who have photographs of the sleigh from years gone by to send them to them, as they would like to post them on their Facebook page.
