WWI Heroes Honoured With Special Benches

Over 20 specially-designed benches have been installed across the Hfm Region as part of commemorations marking 100 years since the end of WW1.

To honour those lost in combat, they have been put in villages including Fleckney, Wistow, Gumley, Great Glen, Lutterworth and Gilmorton, as well as in Market Harborough’s Memorial Gardens, each with its own plaque.

Harborough Council has part-funded the benches together with parish councils.

Leader, Cllr Neil Bannister, said: “I am very proud that we have been able to work closely with our parishes to help provide these benches. It is so important we remember the sacrifice made by those brave men who fought and died – especially in the 100th year since the end of World War One.”
