Work to begin on Harborough district’s largest solar farm

Construction is set to begin next week on what will become the largest solar farm in the Harborough district.

More than 103,000 solar panels will be installed across 227 acres of farmland at Wistow Lodge Farm, off Fleckney Road in Wistow.

The development, approved by Harborough District Council in 2024, is expected to generate enough renewable electricity to power more than 13,000 homes each year – around 30 per cent of homes across the Harborough district.

The project is being delivered by Severn Trent Green Power, which says construction will take place in phases and every effort will be made to minimise disruption to the local community.

Once completed at the end of 2027, the 49.9MW solar park will operate for around 40 years before being decommissioned and the land returned to agricultural use.

As part of the scheme, new hedgerows and trees will be planted and grassland enhanced to improve biodiversity and reduce the visual impact of the development.
