Water Leak Forces Market Harborough Primary School To Close

A water leak has forced a Market Harborough primary school to close.

Ridgeway Primary Academy asked parents and carers to pick up children before lunchtime, as it had no running water.

Homes in the area also had supplies cut-off.

A spokesman for the school said: “Unfortunately there is a significant water leak in the area which is resulting in no water at school. Therefore, with no flushable toilets or water for drinking, hand washing etc.

“As this is a health and safety issue, we have no alternative and will have to close the school.”

Severn Trent Water is carrying out repairs to the leaking pipe.

A spokesperson told HFM: “We’d like to apologise to customers in Ridgeway West, Market Harborough who may experience low or no water pressure as a result of a burst water pipe this morning.

“The burst has been isolated and the repair is underway, with the majority of supplies now restored by moving water around the network in a different way.

“For the safety of our teams and other road users, a temporary road closure is in place on Ridgeway West road while the repair is completed.

“We understand that this is an inconvenience and would like to thank everyone for their patience.”
