Unemployment Drops Slightly Across Harborough

Written by on 26th January 2021

Unemployment has dropped in the Harborough District for the first time in eight months.

Latest figures show 1930 people were out of work and claiming benefits in December – a drop of 70 on November’s figure.

The unemployment figure across Harborough was still three times higher than what it was before the first lockdown in March last year, showing the affect the Coronavirus pandemic has had on jobs.

The Office for National Statistics data published today shows 1,280 more people were unemployed last month, compared with December 2019 and 565 people aged 18 to 24 were out of work, making up 29% of the total.

The current unemployment figure represents 3.4% of the working age population.
