Star-Signed Charity Guitar To Be Auctioned Today!

Written by on 11th December 2018

A guitar signed by some of the world’s leading musicians goes to Auction today – marking the end of a decade-long charity campaign by a Market Harborough fundraiser.

The Fender Stratocaster is embellished with signatures including Pete Townsend, Alice Cooper, Gary Moore, Don McLean, Eric Clapton, Brian May and Jimmy Page.

Rock legend Alice Cooper was one of the last to sign the guitar – pictured with Dave Allen and his wife, Helen

Dave Allen launched the project for the Rainbows Children’s Hospice in 2007, but the guitar got lost in transit just months later.

Amazingly, it re-surfaced earlier this year after appearing for sale on E-Bay and after Police recovered the instrument, he was reunited with it.

Since then Dave has got more big names to sign and this afternoon it will go under the hammer at Bonhams Auction House in London.

Dave told Hfm: “It feels very odd to hand the guitar over to someone else but I know it is safe in the hands of Bonhams. It has been an incredible journey for me and I have been so protective over it.

“I am passionate about raising money for Rainbows and I think the guitar has a lot of potential to do so. I am very excited about the auction and I would like to thank everyone for their support.”

It’s estimated to make around £4,000, but with world-wide interest, the selling price could be much higher.
