Special Tributes In Market Harborough For Remembrance

A number of extra tributes are being paid in Market Harborough this weekend, to mark 100 years since the end of World War One.

John Morley, President of the Market Harborough branch of the Royal British Legion, spoke to Hfm’s Nick Shaw, to explain:

KEY EVENTS

Saturday November 10th

3pm – Act Of Remembrance & Wreath Laying at the WW1 Memorial Portico, former Cottage Hospital, Coventry Road.

4pm – Sunset Ceremony, Memorial Gardens

Sunday November 11th

9.30am – Services organisations & other parade from Commons Car Park, down Coventry Road & High Street to the St Dionysious Church.

10am – Remembrance Service – St Dionysious Church.

10.30am – Services organisations & other parade from church, down High Street to the Square.

10.55am – Act of Remembrance, by the War Memorial on the Square.

Meanwhile, members of Market Harborough’s Royal British Legion have set-off for Belgium this morning, ahead of laying a wreath on the Menin Gate in Ypres.

Travelling in their ‘Poppy Car’ flanked by motorcycle outriders, they’ll join thousands at Remembrance events this weekend marking 100 years since the end of the First World War.

The memorial gates there hold the names of 57,000 who died during the conflict and have no known grave.
