‘Shop Local’ Campaign Underway Across Harborough

Harborough Council has launched a ‘Shop Local’ campaign in a bid to get more people supporting the High Street during the Coronavirus pandemic.

It coincides with more businesses being allowed to re-open at the weekend, including hairdressers, restaurants and cafes.

Shops are being given ‘Welcome! We are open’ stickers to display in their windows and the same message is being emblazoned on the side of bin lorries and some lorries based out of Magna Park near Lutterworth, as well as on electronic notice boards outside the Symington Building.

The campaign will also be highlighted on social media and special webinars will take place to help local shops improve their online profile and boost sales digitally.

Cllr Phil King, Leader of Harborough District Council, said: “This is a proactive campaign to help build confidence and get shoppers back into our retail centres. As people will have seen, we have introduced a number of measures to create a safe environment for shoppers, and this campaign aims to give businesses an added lift. I really hope people support their local shops and independent traders at this difficult time; they need customers now more than ever.”

Last month a number of measures were introduced in Lutterworth and Market Harborough town centres to help create a safe shopping environment including ‘Highstreet Helpers’ wearing high-visibility vests, public hand sanitiser stations, pedestrianised areas, and street markings to show people where to queue.
