Runners Pound Harborough’s Streets In ‘Virtual Marathon’

Written by on 5th October 2020

People from across the Harborough District took part in the Virtual London Marathon yesterday to raise money for good causes.

The main event couldn’t take place because of the pandemic, so fundraisers instead took to the streets where they live.

Harry Brown from Braybrooke ran through local villages before finishing the distance of just over 26 miles in Great Bowden, in a time of 4 hours, 18 minutes.

Harry Brown completed the final part of the marathon wearing a pair of red shoes in memory of Claire Squires with daughter Poppy Brown & was welcomed to the finishing line by members of the Squires Effect charity.

He has raised nearly £2,000 in sponsorship for the Squires Effect charity, that was set-up in memory of Claire Squires from Great Bowden, who sadly died while taking part in the marathon in 2012:

Harry, owner of Browns Hair Salon in Market Harborough, ran the last 100 metres in red stilettos, with his daughter Poppy, in honour of Claire, who loved High Heels and whose favourite colour was red.

He spoke to Hfm:

Meanwhile Sylvia Price set off from Welland Park in Market Harborough to run 26 miles back to SB Gym in Lutterworth to raise funds for Guide Dogs for the Blind and Linda Bradshaw, Charlotte Loasby and Louise Wylie, all from Great Glen, completed the marathon by running through surrounding villages to raise money for Shelter, Youth UK and Wishes 4 Kidz.

Hfm presenter Darren Harte also completed the marathon in a time of 5 hours and 44 minutes, by running round Stanwick Lakes in Northamptonshire.
