Rapid Covid-19 Test Centre Opens For Harborough’s Key Workers

Written by on 11th February 2021

A rapid community Covid-19 test centre has opened in Market Harborough today.

Based at Harborough Leisure Centre, it is available to keyworkers and those unable to work from home, who don’t have any Coronavirus symptoms and are not self-isolating.

Leicestershire County Council is operating the facility using self-administered lateral flow tests, which provide results within a few hours.

The move is aimed at stopping the spread of Covid-19 by identifying the estimated one in three people who are infected, but don’t know it.

It will be the latest such test centre to open in Leicestershire and Nick Rushton, leader of Leicestershire County Council, said: “Our programme of rapid testing for key workers is running smoothly and we are pleased with the speed with which we are managing to roll it out across the county.

“Our key workers have supported our communities throughout the pandemic and rapid testing will help protect them and their customers and colleagues by identifying cases and stopping further spread of coronavirus.”

The centre is open Monday to Friday, 7.30am to 7.30pm and from 10am to 4pm on Saturdays.

People who live or work in Leicestershire, who are eligible for a test, can book one here: wwww.leicestershire.gov.uk/covidtest or by calling the NHS on 119
