Police have seized a dog believed to be a banned breed following concerns about attacks on other animals and a person in the village of Foxton.

Leicestershire Police said officers executed a dangerous dog warrant in the village today and seized a dog believed to be a Dogo Argentino, a breed which is prohibited in the UK.

A force spokesperson said: “The dog has caused significant concern within the village following reports of attacks on other dogs.”

The seizure follows growing unease among residents, after an elderly man and his pet were injured in an incident earlier this month.

The attack happened at around 6pm between Middle Street and Vicarage Drive.

The man was bitten on the hand and knocked to the ground, while his dog was also attacked and injured.

There have been reports of other dogs being attacked by the same animal in recent weeks, leaving some villagers fearful of walking their pets.

Police thanked everyone who had reported concerns and supported the investigation, adding that “enquiries are ongoing”.
