Plans For Thousands Of New Homes Put ‘On Hold’

The plan for a huge development including nearly 3,000 homes near Lutterworth will be re-considered ‘as soon as possible.’

Harborough Council voted to defer the scheme, proposed for 556 acres of farmland adjacent to the M1, when its planning committee considered it last night.

The decision was taken so late representations made on behalf of University Hospitals Leicester can be fully considered.

The NHS Trust had requested nearly £1m from developers, to mitigate the effect the extra population would have on hospitals.

Harborough Council Leader Phil King spoke to Hfm:

The planning committee, which met on-line, also heard concerns councillors had been unable to make a site-visit due to the current lock-down rules.

Planning bosses recommended the deferral, despite saying the developers, Leicestershire County Council, could consider legal action for ‘non-determination’ of the application.

The scheme, which has generated objections from 150 people, also includes two new primary schools and employment space to create around 2,500 jobs.
