Improvement work means a two-kilometre stretch of towpath beside the canal in Market Harborough is to close for around four months.
The Canal and River Trust has secured funding of £600,000 to make the section more accessible and better for use all-year-round.
The stretch of towpath between the canal basin at Union Wharf and ‘Bridge 13,’ will be affected, when the work takes place.
It is planned to start in late March.
A spokesperson for the Trust told HFM: “The Canal & River Trust is improving 2km of the Grand Union Canal towpath running into Market Harborough, making it easier and more appealing for people to use the path as a traffic-free route into and out of the town.
“Funding for the project has come from a £600,000 grant from the Department for Transport through Sustrans’ Paths For Everyone programme.
“A towpath closure will be in place whilst the work is carried out.”
