Over 70% Of Harborough’s Covid-19 Cases Are ‘New Variant’

Nearly three-quarters of all recent Coronavirus cases in the Harborough District have been the new faster spreading variant of the virus.

Public Health England sampled a number of positive tests taken and provided the results to Leicestershire’s health bosses, which show the strain is more prevalent in the District than anywhere else in the county.

The Covid-19 rate in the District continues to fall, but not as fast as last week, with 327 new cases in the seven days to yesterday – 33 down on the previous week.

Mike Sandys, Director of Public Health, told Hfm, the lockdown restrictions appear to be having an effect on Harborough’s rate, but it is vital people stick to the rules:
