Over £6,000 Raised In Memory Of Popular Kibworth Man

Over £6,000 has been raised in less than two days in memory of a homeless man described as one of Kibworth’s most well-liked characters.
Known to everyone as ‘Fred’, he was sadly found dead at the Smeeton Road Recreation Ground on Sunday.

James Bambury set-up the Justgiving page to raise money for a permanent memorial to Fred in the village, which could be in the form of a memorial bench, or to purchase some play equipment that would be dedicated to his name.
He set a target of £5,000, but that was beaten within 24 hours, with over 340 people making donations.
Initially the fund was also to help pay for Fred’s funeral, but his family have contacted James to say they can cover that cost.
Fred, whose real name was Stephen Winter, was well known in Kibworth, having been in the village for around 20 years.
Police are treating his death as unexplained, but not suspicious.
