Over 1,500 drivers have been caught speeding on the A4304 through the village of Walcote, since average speed cameras were switched on two months ago.

All have been issued with penalty notices for breaking the 30mph limit – which is likely to lead to a £100 fine and 3 points on their licences.

The cameras were installed by Leicestershire County Council as part of a trial scheme aimed at reducing speeding through the village.

Unlike fixed cameras, they measure the speed of vehicles entering the village and then exiting, aimed at ensuring drivers stick to the limit or under throughout the whole stretch of the road.
