New Kit For Northants Firefighters

Written by on 5th March 2019

Northamptonshire’s fire crews are looking different from today, after being handed new, gold-coloured kit.

It’s the first major change in 15 years with firefighters saying goodbye to their old, dark blue clothing.

The new kit is lighter and the more modern design is aimed at protecting them from heat penetration, as well as maximising their freedom of movement when carrying out rescues.

It includes fire boots, structural firefighting coats, overtrousers, gloves and fire hoods, has been specially designed to create something called an ‘XFlex silhouette;’ the aim being that it will fit equally well on different body types.

It is already used by the London Fire Brigade and is costing around £190,000 a year, which is cheaper than the current clothing, so will save Northamptonshire Fire & Rescue £45,000 a year.
