New Campaign Targets Road-Side Litter Louts

A new campaign has been launched to target litter louts discarding rubbish in laybys and along major roads across Harborough.
Enforcement vehicles, fitted with cameras, will be patrolling hotspot areas, including the A6, A4304 and A47, and people who capture footage of drivers throwing litter out of vehicles on dashcams are being urged to submit it as evidence.
New signs, written in a number of languages so foreign lorry drivers can read them, are also going up as part of the clampdown.
The campaign is being launched by Harborough District Council, with support from local authorities just over the district boundary, Lutterworth Town Council and the owner of Magna Park, GLP.
By law, it is an offence to drop litter in any open public place, including cigarette butts and chewing gum, with a possible £150 fine for anyone caught.
Failure to pay could result in legal proceedings and a fine in court of up to £2,500.
