A6 Safety Improvement Work To Start Next Week

Work to improve safety at an accident blackspot on the outskirts of Market Harborough is set to begin next week.

A roundabout will be constructed on the A6, at the junction with Kettering Road at Clack Hill, which has been the scene of several serious crashes over the years.

There will be disruption for drivers while the work, which will take around five-and-a half months, is carried out.

Initially temporary traffic lights in place overnight for two weeks, followed by lane closures and traffic not able to turn into Kettering Road from the A6.

A speed reduction will also be in force for the duration of the work.

The work will be carried out by contractors working on behalf of Davidsons Homes, who are behind the major housing development underway near-by.

Another new roundabout will be constructed on Kettering Road at the entrance to the new estate.

Leicestershire County Council have released a timetable for the works:

• Phase 1 – 5th July – 2 weeks of overnight traffic lights to prepare the road for following phases.
• Phase 2 to 4 – 19th July – 20 weeks of lane closures on A6 and one-way traffic outbound only from Kettering Road.
• Phase 5 – TBC – 2 weeks of overnight closures for the final surfacing works.
