Farmers & Police Join Forces After Cows Reach Railway Line

Police officers helped farmers round up a herd of cows after the animals escaped from a field and got onto the railway near Market Harborough.
Officers were called to the line at East Langton at around 3.30pm on Tuesday after a train driver raised the alarm.

Working alongside farmers, they helped locate the animals, which had escaped through damaged fencing, and safely remove them from the tracks.
The Leicestershire and Rutland rural policing team said the incident fell within its “rural policing stereotype” and officers had not hesitated to help when British Transport Police reported several cows on the line, adding there were obvious risks to passing trains, passengers and the livestock.
The team also praised the farmers’ dogs for helping with the operation, reassuring the public that they were never near the railway.
Network Rail repaired the fencing, allowing train services to resume safely.
