Mental Health Services ‘Not Good Enough’

A campaign is being launched demanding more mental health services are provided in Market Harborough.

Those behind it are accusing the local NHS of reneging on their promise of dedicated services being offered at St Luke’s Hospital, following the closure of the Welland Centre three years ago – which was a dedicated base for mental health services.

The Market Harborough For Mental Health group say people are having to travel to Wigston to get additional help and treatment, with a lack of local support for people in crisis and their families.

They will launch a petition in the town centre tomorrow calling for action.

The Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust provides mental health services locally.

A spokesman said: “We would like to clarify that, while our East Leicestershire adult community mental health team moved their administrative base to The Cedars Centre in Wigston, we have always provided care in Market Harborough and continue to, including clinics at St Luke’s Hospital.

Following on from the team move from Welland Centre, which was no longer considered fit for purpose, the service now provides nursing and outpatient clinics at St Luke’s and are able to offer patients the additional choice of being seen in Lutterworth or at The Cedars Centre, if this is more convenient for them.  We also see patients in their homes where it is appropriate.
