Harborough Mum’s Plea As Organ Donation Week Starts
Written by HFM News on 3rd September 2018
The Mother of a Market Harborough boy whose life was saved earlier this year is urging people to join the organ donor register.
Jay Crouch received two new kidneys, a pancreas, liver and bowel in a successful multi-organ transplant, the donation coming from a boy the same age who sadly died.
Jay, who is 8, had suffered with ‘short bowel syndrome’ since he was a baby, after his small intestine twisted, causing complications with his kidneys and other vital organs.
Today marks the start of Organ Donation Week to encourage people to join the register and talk to their families about it.
Last year, 69 people in Leicestershire and 50 in Northamptonshire had their lives saved by a transplant, although in the last five years 46 people in Leicestershire and 32 in Northamptonshire have died while waiting for for one.
Nationally, around three people die a day in need of an organ.
Millions of people are already on the NHS Organ Donor Register, join them today and tell your family you want to save lives.
