Man Arrested After Smash & Grab Raid At Harborough Jewellers

A man has been arrested after a smash and grab raid at a jewellers in Market Harborough.

A motorbike was used to smash through the front door of County Jewellers on the High Street, just before 1.30am yesterday, before three men stole jewellery, including watches and necklaces, from display cabinets.

The burglars, one of which is thought to have been armed with an axe, then fled on two motorbikes.

Police say a 44-year-old man was arrested in Corby shortly after the incident, following a pursuit when a motorbike failed to stop for officers.

He was questioned on suspicion of aggravated burglary, dangerous driving, failing to stop for Police and driving under the influence of drugs.

He has been bailed pending further enquiries.

Officers are continuing to hunt for the two other men who were involved.

Detective Constable Robin Bonnell said: “Our enquiries into what happened and who was responsible are continuing and we would like to appeal for anyone who was in the area and saw or heard anything suspicious to get in touch.

“We would especially like to appeal for any dashcam footage and believe there was a car that stopped as the suspects left the scene.

“The occupants of this vehicle may have vital information to assist with the investigation.

“If anyone has any information and has not yet spoken to officers please get in touch.”
