Jay & His Mum’s Plea During Organ Donation Week

A Market Harborough youngster whose life was saved by a multi-organ transplant and his Mum are urging people to talk to their families during Organ Donation Week.

Jay Crouch, who is now aged ten, received two new kidneys, a pancreas, liver and bowel in a multi-organ transplant just over two years ago – the donation came from a boy the same age who died.

Jay, who goes to Farndon Fields Primary School, spoke to Hfm:

The law around organ donation changed earlier this year meaning people are automatically on the donor register, unless they opt out.

But, Jay’s Mum, Katie Freestone told Hfm families can still stop it happening which could prevent people like her son being given the gift of life.

113 people in Leicestershire and Northamptonshire have received organs from 32 donors in the past year, although 50 people have died in the last five years while waiting for a transplant.
