Harborough Mum Welcomes Change In Law On Organ Donation

A Market Harborough Mum whose son’s life was saved thanks to a multi-organ transplant hopes a new law will bring fresh hope to others on the waiting list.

Jay Crouch received two new kidneys, a pancreas, liver and bowel in 2018 when he was aged 7 – they are came from a boy of a similar age who sadly died.

Nearly all adults in England are now organ donors unless they opt out, after Max and Keira’s law took effect this week.

It’s named after nine-year-old Keira Ball, who died in a car crash in 2017 and ten-year-old Max Johnson, who received her heart in a life-saving transplant, and then campaigned for the change in the law.

Jay’s Mum Katie Freestone spoke to Hfm:

Jay, now aged 10, a pupil at Farndon Fields Primary School, has faced a number of infections and illnesses since the transplant, and is currently fighting a virus which has meant spending a lot of time in hospital over the past few months,
