Fundraising Drive Launched for Thurnby Stabbing Victims’ Family

A fundraising drive has been launched to support the family of a teenager and his father who were left fighting for their lives after a stabbing attack at their home in Thurnby.

Fifteen-year-old Imrane Chelirem and his father Mohamed, who is in his 50s, remain in a critical but stable condition in hospital, a week after the incident.

Two masked men entered the family’s home in Station Road in the early hours of Thursday, October 8th, in what police have described as a “completely unprovoked” attack.

Imrane’s mother, who is also Mohamed’s wife, suffered minor injuries to her hand and shoulder and has since been discharged from hospital. Three other children who were in the house were not injured.

Imrane’s football club, Coalville Town Raptors, set up the fundraising appeal with the blessing of his immediate family.

In a post on Instagram, the club said it was “devastated” by the incident and described Imrane as “a teammate, a friend and a huge part of our football family”.

It added that the whole club was behind him and his family and wanted to do everything possible to support them through what it called “unimaginable circumstances”.

The GoFundMe page describes Imrane as a young man “full of life, personality and determination”, whose friendships with teammates extend far beyond football.

Meanwhile, police say extensive enquiries have been carried out in the area by officers from Leicestershire Police and the East Midlands Special Operations Unit.

Detective Inspector Lorna Granville, who is leading the investigation, said searches in the surrounding area were now complete, but further enquiries were continuing to locate those responsible.

She said the investigation was progressing significantly and specially trained officers were continuing to support the family.

Police said there was currently no information to suggest there was a wider risk to the public, and no indication at this stage that the attack was racially or religiously motivated.

Officers are appealing for anyone with information or footage that could help the investigation to come forward.

Information can be submitted through the Major Incident Public Portal.

The fundraising appeal can be found on GoFundMe.
